How Introverts Can Grow Their Business
Growing your online business as an entrepreneur can be daunting, especially when you see extroverted entrepreneurs and how they show up on social media. As an introvert entrepreneur for ten years, I have these tips to help you overcome overwhelm and grow your business with ease!
You don't have to work hard to get what you want
When I was growing my online business years ago, I used the "hustle methodology" to create results, but they weren't working. So for four or five years, I was pounding on the keyboard, at any given moment that I could, because I thought the harder I work, the more successful I will be. I had this belief from seeing how hard my parents worked and how they gave me an extraordinary life because of it. However, it is different when you're growing an online business.
What I was doing wasn't working, and I had no idea about mindset stuff, about taking a break and letting yourself relax and be yourself. I didn't believe in all of that because I always thought: the harder you work, the busier you are, the better you are. I didn't know that wasn't part of the equation until years later when I realized nothing was working and my business wouldn't be sustainable.
Then I started hearing people talk about mindset. At first, it sounded boring to me because I thought it meant just sitting and doing nothing. However, when I started having more kids, the more I appreciate the stillness of things; when I'm not in front of the computer, I'm just myself and enjoying my relationship with my family. That's when things started to spark.
So I learned that I don't have to run a business as my parents did. That might have worked for them, but it's not going to work for me. Your parents also had the best intentions like mine, and they did the best they could, but how they worked cannot apply to my online business.
You're building an online business where you’re putting a lot of energy into helping people. For example, I'm a coach. So I spend a lot of energy listening to people, getting them through things, and helping them prepare for the future. That's a lot of energy. So I need to be able to take care of myself, so I can expand it to be impactful for others. That is the same for you as well.
Have a content medium
Every entrepreneur should have a content medium; whether it's videos, blogging, or podcasting, they need some way to provide valuable information to everybody.
My content medium is my podcast, Book Your Dream Clients. Blogging is great, but sometimes I just don't want to sit and type. It's easier for me just to talk. I brought on somebody to help me with it right away because I knew that I used to have another podcast years ago, and it was a lot of work.
So choose your primary content medium, hire an assistant if needed, then expand to another medium later on if you’d like.
Repurpose your content
Don't just put your content in one platform and let it sit there. Spread it out and put it everywhere. For example, I’ve done lives on my Facebook group and then turned them into a podcast episode. Doing this will make sure you're increasing your visibility without having to create new content all the time.
Tap into who your ideal client is
You can do this by remembering who you were a few years ago. Sometimes we overcomplicate building our dream client avatar that we don't realize the people you can help best are the people who are experiencing what you experienced before. You will be able to connect best with people who are similar to you and want to achieve the same things as you.
