How to Create a Six-Figure Coaching Business While Raising Your Family
You may be wondering, “Is it really possible to build a six-figure coaching business while also raising my family?” It may feel really impossible since who has time to start a business, while going through pregnancy, taking care of the kiddos, and making sure the house is all neat and tidy, let alone scale that business to six figures?
But I will tell you, it is possible. I, myself have done it, my clients and other people in the industry have done it and so can you. In this blog post, I will spill all the details on how you can build a six-figure business while raising your family.
But first, let’s get one thing that WON’T help you at all out of the way: it’s trying to do all the things. In my experience, trying to do ALL the things just led to confusion and burnout. At first, I was trying to do a lot by trying to have all these different little programs. I was so busy working and it felt like something wasn’t right.
I remembered talking to one of my coaches once and he said, “Well, why don't you just focus on the one thing that you love?” I thought that that really makes sense! Why are we focusing on things that we don't really love? Why do we have to endure walking grudgingly into our office and not looking forward to the day ahead of us? So I picked that one thing and that was my signature program Stand Out Coaching Academy (SOCA). So I just went with it and I wanted SOCA to be what I'm known for. I put all of my heart and my soul into this program to help women make a difference and it's been my primary focus for the last three years and I wasn’t sidetracked anymore.
Laser focusing on your vision
I believe that that's the only way I would have been able to do that was by laser focusing on my vision, helping women start their coaching business. That's it and nothing else. I simplified and just went with my vision so that what I ask my clients too: “What’s your vision?”
We don't need to have a bunch of different visions, because that's overwhelming, especially for moms who are having to wear so many other hats. I think mothers are watching these entrepreneurs online who are preaching about the hustle culture, work 18 hours a day, quit your job, all of that. You don't have to do that. You can have all of those things without going through the hustle culture and I’m living proof of that. I have three kids who need me and I have a full-time job that I've been working from home for over 16 years.
You don't have to have one thing or the other, you can have everything if you want to, you just need to model after somebody who has the lifestyle that you do and then just get advice from them. Use them as a mentor or as a guide. Because women shouldn't have to choose between being a mom, a career woman, and an entrepreneur, you can be all three.
Match-who-you-want-to-attract philosophy
You might be confused by this phrase and I understand because I sure am too when I first heard of this. This phrase basically asks the question: What do we want to attract? If put into a business perspective you can ask yourself these sample questions:
What kind of lifestyle do I want to attract?
What kind of clients do I want to attract?
Getting prepared for the clients you want to work with
I always start our program by manifesting those clients by being prepared, thinking about them, knowing them inside and out, even if they don't exist for you in reality yet. When you're grateful for the things that happen for you, that will happen for you, it will come. If we're not grateful and we're not ready for all of those things to happen then they won’t. That's where those blocks will come up to.
So being prepared and visualizing gratitude, these things will bring in those clients that match your vision, because you already proclaimed that that's what it is. So many times we miss that step and then we're wondering why is it not working. It's because you haven't declared what it is, and you don't even know what it is, and you're not grateful for it. So if we're not grateful for something, we're not going to get it.
Social media strategy
I have a very strong organic marketing plan and that has always been the strongest foundation for my business. With any online business, you must have a strong social media presence (no matter which platform you choose) because that’s literally where our clients can find us. These are the platforms I use:
Pinterest - I have a very intelligent Pinterest Manager who helps me who runs all of my Pinterest, boards, and pins, she does the magic for me, but I know what to do. I always recommend before you hire somebody that you should know exactly what you're doing, then go hire it out. So Pinterest helps me get clients and helps me get students on autopilot.
Instagram - Instagram does the same for me as Pinterest. So I show up on Instagram on the Stories and on the feed consistently. I get clients from there as well. Sometimes I will say that I have a spot open on my stories and then I'll have a discovery call in the next half hour just you putting myself out there consistently. Even when you feel like you're a broken record, just keep doing it because somebody is going to see it. The right person who is going to see it has been looking for somebody just like you.
Facebook Group - I also have a Facebook Group called Book Your Dream Clients. We do things like an Ask Lindsey live and we put that audio on our podcast. So if you have coaching questions, I will answer them for free in the group. We have collaboration opportunities in the group, we have so many cool features that are very different from all the other Facebook groups out there. It’s very community-oriented.
Use your intuition
Using your intuition or trusting your gut is what's going to take you to a place where no other coach can help you go. I think so many of us rely on templates and guides to go forward. When we always do that then we’re really just relying on someone else's journey, using programs and coaches as guides. That's kind of when my business took a turning point for the better when I stopped relying on all of the black and white steps.
So when you take all of the things that you've learned, all the things that you listen to all the things that you read, check-in with yourself, and ask…
Does this feel right for me?
Does this feel like me in the first place?
If it does, then use it. If it doesn't, don't, because when it doesn't feel like you, you will feel some sort of negativity around it. The negativity that you feel is what you're going to project out there and that's what you're going to be plugging into. So everything that you learn everything that you are told, you can tell your coach that you don't agree with that. You can say, “I'm going to do it my way.” Because if it doesn't feel right for you, why in the world would you do it? This is your business. So you created your business to make it run the way you need it to run because you have a family or whatever else you have.
Make sure you're always checking in with yourself when you sit down at your computer to do your work. How do you feel? Do you feel excited? Ask yourself that all of the time, if you don't feel excited, if this isn't fun to you, or joyful for you, take a break. Because nothing's going to feel right after you have that feeling. You're not an employee, you're the boss. So be your best boss ever. Listen to yourself, you have the ability to do what you're going to get done so why not do it when you're feeling like this is going to be so joyful for you?
In conclusion, simplifying things, being clear in what and who you want to attract, choosing the platforms that feel right for you, and trusting your gut will help you scale your business to six figures all while being an awesome mother and partner.
